A long roller of an XC that the whole family can enjoy!

Paul Rogers

Even though this trail doesn't stray far from highway 20 for long. it has very nice flow with several s-turn rhythym sections mixed in with short technical root patches, rollers and optional lines with kickers and berms. The most heavily used section is between Harmony Ridge Market and White Cloud Fire Station, but that is also one of the most flowy sections. The grade is gradual and most people ride as an out an back. It's close to Scott's Flat Lake Trail so many work a portion of Pioneer in with a Scott's descent.

There is trail parking at Harmony Ridge Market, White Cloud, Equestrian overlook, Skillman, and the Alpha Omega Vista. There are lots of trail markers along the way and even posted on some trees. Sometimes it's just a forestry logo and other times it's a directional sign. It's not easy to get lost as the trail always parallels the highway. The majority of the traffic on the trail is mountain bikes, but occasionally you'll come upon horses -- especially if you are near Skillman horsecamp.

Is there a shuttle service in the area? Aug 29, 2015

Are there campgrounds at both ends of the trail? Mar 14, 2016

Rode this trail both directions on May 29th, 2016. 30+ miles. In my opinion, no incentive to ride this trail. Many of the CA trails I have ridden have some scenic vews or techinicality or something that makes you enjoy the trai. But this trail had nothing to enjoy. High trees on both side of the trail and the highway sound next to you :) Also the trail was like a feather bed in so many places with the pine leaves, tree debris, borken trail and horse waste slush. Many simple, basic climbs become energy sapping and no fun. I felt like I rode 45 miles :) A week ago, Rode "Fiske to Foley creek" trail at Rumsey, CA. First 7 miles just climb 2000 feet.. Didn't feel as bad as climbing 5 miles 500 feet in pioneer trail :) In a nutshell, there are so many beautiful or challenging or techincal trails; Pioneer isn't worth spending time unless you have no other trail to ride nearby. To make sure, this is not a negative comment about the trai, just describing the nature of the trail, comparing to other trails and what's in it for you if you drive from a good distance to this trail. Note: the trail has 3 or 4 tough techinical palces on climbs. Good luck! G May 30, 2016
