Update

This is an urban network of rails right in downtown Morgantown.

John Smyth

Overview

This is a large network of short trails that can be pieced together to form longer rides. The trails are fast and flowing with very few obstacles. The park is managed by Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation and the trails are maintained by local riders.

Need To Know

In the summer months, training races are held every Thursday night. Check Google Groups (Mon Bike Club) for more information.

Description

Parking can be found anyplace within the park. The trails cross the paved road and sidewalk at several points so use caution. Most riders start at the ice rink. Also, no swimming or boating is permitted in the reservoir.

This place is a playground for mountain bikers. The trail is easy to follow, and you really can't get lost. Overall, it's not particularly challenging riding, but there are many options to try jumps - including a few gap jumps that locals have built.

Little confusing for first timer. Lots of offshoot trails

Forecasting the weather...

The "Main Trail" is a little confusing to locate for a first time visitor here. All the offshoot trails make it difficult to find, and stay on. After riding around for a while, we found the main trail and followed the path most worn-in. It was a fun and easy ride with some moderate sections. There were offshoot trails with more technical sections with jumps, banks and other obstacles to ride as well. We enjoyed it. Also, really convenient location to the city, local restaurants and good food. We were driving through the area, found it using the MTBProject app and it made for a great "break" in our drive. This is one of the most enjoyable trails I've raced. It has a lot of fun features. There are climbs and descents but they are broken up into pretty short sections which is a different kind of fun than long climbs and descents you see in other areas of WV. I consider this a "playground" type of MTB trail that is fun and flowy rather than highly technical. Jul 24, 2015
