Description

The steep and eroded lower portion of Lonberger Path has been rerouted and... best of all -- armored! Once a descent powered by prayer, this section is now paved with flat rocks, creating a safe meandering path down the hill to Laurel Road. And, it's purty, too.

PA DCNR has done a truly whizzbang job of armoring this hill and related trail surface work. The reroute of the trail was cut in by almost thirty volunteers during an enjoyable DCNR trailbuilding workshop in August, 2013. Jeremy Wimpey of Applied Trails Research led the workshop, consulting with DCNR on this very well done reroute. Kudos to all involved.

Let's hear it for tax dollars at work!!! :-)

The beginning of the armored portion. Rothrock's own little Appian Way!

New rock walled switchbacks are a bit tight, but enjoyable.
