Overview

This is a fairly straightforward climb on forest service roads with nice views along the way. It's worth riding for the views, but it's not singletrack!

Description

Start anywhere along forest service road 523 and follow it up the 7 mile 5% grade climb. The road is hard packed dirt road with some wash-boarding and small rocks in the roadbed. It gets a bit rougher above Love Lake as the road isn't as well maintained.

Love Lake makes a good snack break location or turn-around if the weather looks iffy. Otherwise, head on up to the Bristol Head Peak scenic overlook. Along the way you'll see evidence of the 2013 Papoose wildfire.

The trip back down is fast and relatively smooth. Be sure to watch for cars and unexpected hairpin turns while you bomb the descent.
