Overview
This ride is a moderate fireroad climb to a singletrack descent (well, mostly down). Link it with Gray's Peak (up-n-back) - and you've got yourself a good ride! Local's favorite.
Description
In the city of Fawnskin, park in the parking lot across from Fire Station 48. Ride the paved road 3N14 (Rim of the World Drive) a little ways up until it turns into a fireroad. Continue up this road, passing the YMCA camp. Pass another fireroad 3N12 that comes in to your right and ride 1/4 mile until you run into the Hanna Flats Campground. Turn into the campground and find campsite #49. You'll see a trailhead between campsites 49 and 51 - this is where it gets fun!
There are about 6 sections of singletrack that is broken up by fireroads. However, it's easy to pick up the next section of singletrack - just follow the bike tracks! The first section is mostly climbing, then the rest of the trail is mostly down. The Hanna Flats trail going in this particular direction will link up to Grout Bay trail - after about an 1/8 mile fire road climb. Take the Grout Bay trail down for a fun descent to a parking lot and highway 18 (North Shore Drive) road. Turn left at the highway back to the parking lot.
For a better time climbing, start the other way and climb up Grout Bay and Hanna Flat trails - then come back again for a fun up-n-back ride. A must do link-up is Gray's Peak (2.2 miles) to top out for a great view of the valley and lake.
This is a popular trail for hikers and bikers, so please be courteous.
