Hays Woods

Hays Woods (aka 40 Acres) is a recent add to Pittsburgh parks, and is now rideable, flowy, and with lots of vertical.

This is a new public park and is not fully developed yet, so be the first to claim your KOMs.  You'll run into very few people here.  Non-stop challenges await, and with some trails so sick I won't even hike them.  All of these are legitimate trails and are marked on Google Maps and Strava.  The trails are in good shape and free of roots but do have some loose rocks on them.  Some spots will be soggy at times, so be ready. 

Most people hike the roads to the 3 different overlooking bluffs. Duquesne Power and Light recently improved the road that goes to the Pages overlook, and this is a highly recommended 1.2 miles out and back casual stroll that is easy and bug-free.  There are significant singletrack routes that were well-packed by motorcycles back in the day, and in some spots, there are ruts.  Again, it's a new public park and will likely be choked up with branches in the summer, but the Friends of the Hays Woods and other partners have been helping to keep the trails open by fall.  Be prepared for occasional greenbriers or ticks.  If you are willing to explore, there are many cool off-route trails, several ponds, multiple bluffs, and a waterfall.
