Park at the overlook, not Hither Hills State Park. Overlook gives you good options and views. Some sandy spots. Beautiful views. Also, you'll likely traverse LIRR tracks (actively used). Be careful and look both ways.

Local Info

(Bring your bike out on the LIRR, about 3 hour train ride) $5 bike pass fee (good for a year). No bikes on "peak" trains. (M-F rush hour). Further east is the town of Montauk. Places to stay, good food. Hither Hills State Park is the best camping on LI (along the ocean dunes). VERY DIFFICULT to reserve a site. If you camp at the park, clean bathrooms, very well-kept park. A couple of miles form downtown Montauk.
