Overview

This ride is easy to access from anywhere in Downtown Marietta and leads you north of the city limits into the Rudolph Farm portion of the Broughton's Wildlife Area. Combine this ride with the Marietta Lunch Loop or the Broughton's Bonus Loop to really stack up some miles!

Need to Know

Limited Parking is available at the small trailhead on Hillcrest Dr but this ride is easily accessed from anywhere in downtown.

Description

From Hillcrest Drive take the Cisler Trail (just behind Movement Fitness). The trail drops down crossing a bridge over a creek then begins a ~1 mile climb toward Jackson Hill Park. Stay on the Cisler Trail until you pop out onto Gibbon Street. Follow Gibbons Street a few hundred feet to the top of the hill to Cisler Drive. The Cisler Trail continues across the street, slightly to your right. After a short distance you'll cross the entrance road for Jackson Hill Park. Turn right on the entrance road and climb up to the parking lot and dog park. Follow the gravel road that bares to the right at the back of the parking lot. Along the pines behind the dog park watch for the License to Ill trail dropping in on your right. This drop has jumps drops and other features. If it's your first time on it, take it slow until you know what to expect. At the bottom of the trail it splits with the "A line" to the right and the "B line" to the left. The trail rejoins a few hundred feet later. The "A line" has a ~10 foot gap jump over a small creek. You may want to check it out before you jump it. The trail finishes under Marietta High School, which is a unique structure that spans the valley that it's built over. Once you're under the school, cross the bridge on your right and immediately turn left on the Tiger Trail. Follow Tiger Trail to the crossing of Academy Drive (the first paved road you'll come to) then turn left on the road. You'll head downhill to a stop sign on Colegate Drive. Turn right on Colegate Drive and immediately turn left on Mill Creek Road. Take Mill Creek Road to the trailhead at the end. You'll take the Mill Creek Trail which continues off the end of Mill Creek Road. Mill Creek is a fun, flowing trail that parallels I-77 for a short distance. You'll see some connector trails splitting off along the way- Just stay on Mill Creek Trail. Mill Creek leads you directly to Second Creek Trail. Second Creek is another fun flowing trial that begins with a gentle climb to the top of the hill then has a drawn out descent down the other side. Second Creek Trail leads you directly to Dark Hollow Trail. Take Dark Hollow Trail, ignoring the few connector trails you'll see along the way. Dark Hollow works its way deep into a valley that is notoriously dark, hence the name. The trail has a lot of gentle traversing with a few short, punchy climbs. Dark Hollow Trail leads to Pioneer Trail. Turn left on Pioneer Trail. Pioneer Trail climbs gently to the high point of the property. The Pioneer Trail connects directly to the Rudolph Farm Trail at the top of the hill. From here, you'll stay on the Rudolph Farm Trail for 2.3 miles back to the Mill Creek Trail. Turn right on the Mill Creek Trail and you'll be back to Mill Creek Road in a couple hundred feet. From here head back down Mill Creek Road to Colegate Drive and climb back up Academy Drive to the Tiger Trail. Turn Left on the Tiger Trail. After a short climb turn left on the Cisler Trail. Stay on the Cisler Trail back to Jackson Hill Park. Continue on the Cisler Trail back along Gibbons Street. Take the Cisler Trail downhill and turn left onto the Boresma to continue descending. Follow the Boresma Trail 0.3 mi then turn left back onto the Cisler Trail and follow to the finish. Enjoy!
