Description

This somewhat steep, rocky mining road built during the 1890's climbs through old growth conifer forest, traverses the mountainside beneath a cliff band, then continues above treeline onto open tundra.

Boulders and smaller rocks line the trail as it leads you to some of the most amazing mountain views in northern New Mexico.

When you approach treeline, the road becomes overgrown with grasses and wildflowers, and a few spruce trees. Follow the grade below a benched moraine 'till it climbs to the highest switchbacks where a prospect trench was dug. This is the high point of the trail, beneath the saddle between Frazer Mountain to the left, and Pattison Peak to the right.
