Overview

Loop around on the doubletrack trails through this remote (for Door County) wilderness park with flowers in spring and mushrooms in fall. Walk your bikes to the shore or explore the hikers-only paths to access lake views to the south and east.

Need to Know

Vehicle admission stickers are required here for this Wisconsin State Park. Discounted for residents and daily/annual passes are available. Trail passes are not required at this remote park for bikers.

Description

Park at Lot 1 but you'll need to ride west on the entrance road to get to the start point of the multi-use trail. (The trail leading directly south from Lot 1 is hikers only). I've included the Monarch Trail grass loop for those who would like to visit it and not have to double back the same way. Expect butterflies and flowers in the spring/summer.

As the grass loop finishes, take note to head east as the section of Rowleys Bay Loop Trail that heads south is hikers only. (If the trail gets rocky/narrow - it's a clue you're on a hikers-only trail).

Heading east, you'll pass another hikers-only path on your right until you reach the multi-use Newport Loop Trail that turns right heading south. When you reach the end of the southern leg, you can take a westward out and back leg on Rowleys Bay Loop Trail that follows the coastline, but you'll need to turn back when you reach the hikers-only section. Otherwise, head northeast on Newport Loop Trail and stay on the multi-use trail as it turns eastward (and the hikers-only Ridge Trail splits north). The trail will turn north and then northwest, leaving the hikers-only paths to the east.

Finally, the Newport Loop Trail turns west (unless you decide to head north to connect to the northern loop trails). Look for the right turn heading north back to the lot on Monarch Trail - once headed north, take care to avoid the hikers-only spur on the right.
