Family Friendly Traverses a renovated historic bridge that offers great views of Cochran Mill Falls. Use trail to connect to the Red Trail and Green Trail without riding on the road.

Need to Know

$5 parking at the lot. Be courteous when encountering hikers, and yield to equestrian users.

Description

Starting from the parking lot, exit the parking lot the same way you drove in, and cross paved Cochran Mill Road. The old gravel road across the street is the start of the Orange Trail. Have your camera ready because you'll be taking it out within 150 yards as you cross the restored historic bridge. From the bridge, you'll get great views of Cochran Mill Falls on Little Bear Creek and what's left of the old mill site.

From the falls area, continue down the old roadbed. At the fork in the road, stay to the right and go up hill (left is a maintenance road). You'll shortly come to an intersection and a second bridge. Continue across the bridge and stay to the left. This part of the trail will be marked with green dots.

From here, the trail becomes a wide singletrack but stays level. Look uphill in this area and notice the long rock wall. It is believed that these rocks were originally placed here during the farming days and is simply the end of the field (garden) and marks the spot were the farming terraces end. In a short distance, the trail end across Cochran Mill Road from the Red Trail. If you are a beginner or with children please note the Red Trail is somewhat difficult and you may be happier on the Yellow Trail.

NOTE: The term "Orange Trail" actually describes all of the trails on the east side of Cochran Mill Road and to the south of Bear Creek. Although there are several trails listed as Orange Trails on the City's map, you should note that the other trails are best left to hikers as they are steep often have many hikers on them.
