Need to Know

Eagle has plenty of places for coffee, food, and drinks. Parking is usually plentiful at a variety of trailheads in the area, such as Third Gulch.

Description

This route is almost all doubletrack and is generally quite mellow. There is one section with a very steep incline and a loose, powdery surface that makes for a difficult ascent. It is just a short hike-a-bike, only a couple hundred feet of length. This route makes a nice loop with Third Gulch and other Eagle Trails such as Riddle and Mayer Gulch.

The route can be ridden in either direction. This description is for the loop described above, from Third Gulch to Second Gulch to the entrance to Bailey.

Take a left from Third Gulch onto an ATV/dirt bike loose dirt road to start the route. Continue a short distance until you reach the steep, powdery incline. Try to ride it, or just walk it like 99% of people. Continue straight past signs for connectors to Hardscrabble Road. This is a popular ATV and dirt bike area, keep your head up.

As a whole, the route is very well marked. Continue onto Second Gulch, at which point you'll be descending on loose, fast doubletrack. Continue straight until you find the sign on the left for Bailey. This whole area has a lot of trails and loops of both single and doubletrack.

Overall, this a nice, mellow route for wildlife viewing and leaf peepers, with only one hike-a-bike section. Beware of motorized users and trail runners. Enjoy!
