Overview

A challenging climb to high altitude on a relatively well groomed rescue road for Day One of the K2N.

The 2018 K2N MTB Stage Race consisted of an up and down via this rescue road (1st of 4 days in the stage race), and the 2019 version of the same race will likely consist of this climb, followed by a singletrack downhill return.

Need to Know

This route is NOT open to the public without special permission from Kilimanjaro National Park. Also, the course can not be closed and may have other traffic.

Description

It's pretty straightforward. Climb continually until you reach the Morum Shelters, at which point the road makes a left turn and levels out just a bit. Continue climbing until you reach the Shira helipad.

Riders will experience absolutely incredible views of Mount Kilimanjaro, not to mention climbing through several ecological zones. The route follows a rescue road used for injured or sick Kilimanjaro climbers. This route is NOT open to the public without special permission from Kilimanjaro National Park. Also, the course can not be closed and may have other traffic.
