Overview
Explore hidden alpine meadows between rocky limestone mountains on this moderately challenging loop.
Need to Know
Watch for dogs. Use caution near the main roads.
Description
This loop has a hard start with a quick and steep climb heading east from Villafeliz de Babia. It soon gets more flat and easier as the
Villafeliz de Babia - Las Rozas section bends to the left (north) toward Puerto Pinos. After the tough beginning, there is a long flat section through alpine meadows on doubletrack (see photo), followed by a final hard singletrack section (
Las Rozas - El Caldiriu) all the way to the top and intersection with
Puertos de la Cubiella Road.
This route uses the
Bypass to link up with the
Puertos de la Cubiella Road, which you return west on to Pinos and then the road back to San Emiliano. From San Emiliano, you can use the road or various goat paths off the road to head south back to Villafeliz de Babia.
History & Background
The trail passes through several sections that have been used as summer pastures for centuries.
