Family Friendly A wide and flat route through Fort Stevenson.

Park closes at 10 p.m.

Overview

This ride uses a series of relatively flat trails with minor elevation changes. The scenic paths runs along the shore of the Fort Stevenson State Park peninsula, and the trail itself is roughly 3-4 feet wide the entire length and can be picked up on multiple points within the park.

The trail crosses from grasslands to forest multiple times and gives you amazing views of Lake Sakakawea. I would definitely recommend this for family rides and beginners.

Need to Know

The ride is in a state park so be prepared to pay an entrance fee.

Description

This state park features smooth ground, flowing trails, and breathtaking views. It's by far the best, most relaxed trail system in North Dakota. Located on a state park, there is a beautiful camping area that is definitely a section of trail you want to add to your trip whether you're looking for a stroll with a view or a fast, flowing challenge. This ride is a blast both during daylight hours and at night with some bike lights.

The ride itself starts at the parking area near Prairie Dog Town heading north on the Flicker Loop before turning right onto the Northern Pine Loop, which is a lollipop loop with intermittent tree cover. This loop makes up around half of the entire ride, before continuing west on the Flicker Loop back toward the lakeshore.

Follow the lakeshore southeast past the parking areas. Continue toward the peninsula on the Purple Coneflower Trail before taking a quick loop onto the deTrobriand Loop with access to more trails to lengthen the ride or retrace your route back along the lakeshore as shown.
