Description

This love-it-or-hate-it track of twisting singletrack is one part hiking trail and several parts old-school jank. Riding clockwise will line up most of the steeper grades as descents. But the hair-pin turns, off-camber roots, and tree-pinches will be a challenge in either direction. You're best to avoid this trail unless you like an adventure or crave some technical cross-country challenges.

From the west side, drop off the road and dodge a number of trees before the trail splits. Keep straight over the log roll to soon begin climbing and switchbacking up the rolling terrain. Even though the grade is more level here, the deep roots and indifferent corners will keep you working.

A short but steep climb beckons ahead before the trail plunges steeply down past the intersection with the Spencer's Ridge Connector. The rest of the descent is a cascade of steep off-camber turns with plenty of roots to up the challenge. You may find some sections are just not doable as the trail works down into a shady depression. A series of these "kettles" were left behind by glacial activity and is the name for the Kettle Trails. You'll have to focus on the challenging tread a lot, but the still surroundings and unique geology make a nice addition to the ride. Do watch for a tree-pinch that will be too narrow for all but the most demure bars.

Where the trail splits, keep right to reach the start of Spencer's Loop Extension or start the climb back out to the start.
