Family Friendly An easy loop with great views of the surrounding mountains

In very wet weather, parts of the track may be under water due to the flat nature of the land.

Description

This is a family friendly loop that easily travels through grassy flats and manuka scrub on Teetotal Flats. It starts from the local skating pond and DOC carpark (there is a DOC Mountain Bike Tracks sign on Highway 63 at the carpark entrance).

From there it forms a lollipop loop as it leads out on the flats beside Duckpond Stream with short climbs through manuka scrub to the grassy Teetotal Flats. Usually ridden counter-clockwise, the trail fords a small stream in one place not long before heading south through a patch of native bush.

When Teetotal Road is reached, turn left along the road for 164 ft (50 m) then right at the sign back on to a piece of doubletrack. A marker post indicates a left turn back on to the singletrack which wanders across the flats through more manuka with one short climb. Teetotal Road is crossed again and markers lead you to rejoin the outward track near the bottom of Duck Down Trail.
