Description

Red Root Road is a forest road in the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area. It's useful for connecting the Frady Branch and Lake Russell Trail systems to make some really long rides.

From the Frady Branch Trail system, follow Latham Road (FSR #87C) to a left on Guard Camp Road (FSR #87) to a right on Red Root Road (FSR #92). The Ladyslipper Trail #951 intersects Red Root Road before you reach Nancy Town Lake. Nancytown is one of the towns that disappeared when the federal government acquired the land in the 1930's. It's named for a Cherokee Warrior who lead her tribe to victory.

The route also passes the Mountain Grove cemetery about near the Middle Fork Broad River. Mountain Grove was another of the towns that disappeared.

The route continues on past the Sourwood Trail to civilization at Stottsville, where it ends at Welcome Home Road. The part of this road from the lake to the end in Stottsville has previously been known as Nancy Town Road.
