Overview

This 14 mile ride takes you on a big circle route around the north half of the Sugarloaf Peak trail system.

Need to Know

Winter weather is to-die-for, summer weather, you might die here. Help might find you in the winter, but is very unlikely in the summer. Plan accordingly. You can always walk out to the canal and find civilization, but carrying water with you would make it an adventure rather than a crisis. Be smart.

Short sections of this trail measure over 30% grade, despite what the app says.

Description

Fit riders with solid basic skills will find this ride challenging but rideable. Skilled, experienced, riders will find the ride lacking in significant technical challenges though there are a few steep, loose, gravely climbs. The north half of Champagne is skipped by many, but it is a great speed rush for those so inclined. Not steep, just long, narrow, downhill that lets you work up a good head of steam. Don't let your speed get away from you, there are many small surprises to keep you on your toes.

The rough-and-ready nature of these trails will appeal to those who like rough and ready trails but may not appeal to those who prefer polished trails.

The geological features that you'll pass on this ride are world-class. If you have a geological bent, you'll have a great deal to distract you from your riding. If you don't know a thing about geology, look around and know that you are riding through a geological wonderland.

Check out the descriptions of the individual trails that make up this ride if you're interested in more specific details about each section.

I found Sugarloaf very difficult to ride due to the loose gravel. Hard to maintain traction on uphills. Downhills and corners were treacherous. 13.2mi

This trail would be awesome if maintained. The further part of this trail has some totally unrideable sections due to erosion issues.
