Please do not ride the trails when wet. There are very few trails close to Philadelphia, and the community works hard to keep them in good condition.

Description

You can begin this trail from the south from the Wissahickon Bikeway or from Forbidden Drive. There are also various points farther north where you can access this trail including (but not limited to) Wises Mill Rd, Summit Ave, Forbidden Drive (near Summit Ave), and the Houston Playground (off of Grakyn Ln). This trail should be used in conjunction with the White Trail and the Wissahickon Orange Trail South Segment if you want to do a loop around the park; otherwise, the trail will be an out-and-back with a lollipop loop on the northern section. The lollipop section will take you to what is known as "The Meadows" which is very flowy and fast.

Starting from the point of diversion for "The Meadows" (very near to Forbidden Drive), you'll be in the northern part of the park. Riding south, here are some notable highlights of the trail:

Climb up to Summit Ave, at the top of the climb, you'll need to cross the road at the corner. You can take a very short section of trail that will spit you back out onto Summit Ave. Turn right onto Summit Ave. Pay close attention to the left side of the road; about 1/4 mile down the road and just after a small creek crossing, the trail starts into the woods again. Take this trail.

A short, tight and twisty section follows. There is a fork in the trail after a creek crossing, but both trails convene again before crossing Wises Mill Rd. Cross Wises Mill Rd to resume on the singletrack.

The trail is straightforward for the next 2.3 miles. You'll encounter a few log-overs, a descent with about 5 whoop-de-doos (aka JUMPS!), and a few flat sections. About 2.3 miles from Wises Mill Rd, you'll descend to a creek. There is a concrete bridge over this creek; turn right to cross it (you'll see a large, overhead bridge that is Henry Ave in front of you), and almost immediately turn left to stay on the Yellow Trail. You'll shortly encounter a rocky climb. Further down the trail you'll hit a short pumptrack-like section with one balance log.

Shortly after passing under Walnut Bridge (a big bridge with graffiti), you'll have the option to descend to Forbidden Drive (and exit the park at Lincoln Drive via Forbidden), or turn right to stay on singletrack. If you chose the latter, the singletrack will spit you out onto the Wissahickon Bikeway (a multi-use paved trail that connects the Lincoln Drive parking lot to the Wissahickon Transfer Center).
