Family Friendly Great loop for beginners and families getting into Mountain Biking, mainly double track and fire roads. Some climbing and a few rocky spots and shallow water crossings, with a few descents.

Use caution in wet weather, as the rocky terrain can become slick. This loop and most of the Antietam trails are "all weather" with the exception of some secluded singletrack on other loops.

Description

The first part of this loop incorporates the a trail with a red blaze. This Beginner loop/trail continues on the mid-level fire lanes and doubletrack, taking the rider by two sites of historic ruins (marked on the trail map). This and most loops/trails at this park can be ridden in all weather conditions.

History & Background

Antietam Lake Park is Berks County's newest parkland acquisition. At 643 acres, Antietam Lake Park doubled the acreage of the park system and expanded opportunities for enjoyment of the scenic resources of the county. It is located primarily in Lower Alsace Township with a small portion in Alsace Township, just east of the City of Reading. This Plan promotes the conservation of the natural resources and historic elements at Antietam Lake while promoting sustainable public use and introducing public accommodations to enhance visitor experiences.

Historic content can be found in detail on the Trail map located at the main parking area.
