Overview

Casa Grande Mountain has a nice network of trails built by AmeriCorps NCCC crews over the last couple of years. There are both easy trails and hard trails. The rides lower down on the slopes are the easiest. Higher up, the trails get harder and narrower. You can ride the whole east side of the range. There is no trail yet on the west side for bikes, although a really rough and cactus-strewn trail can be found at the south end. No water, but outhouses for the desperate.

Need to Know

Bring water and sunscreen. Ride in winter; avoid the summer heat.

Description

At Exit 200 on I-10, turn off the freeway heading south to the Love's convenience store. Just past the store, look for Arica Road. Take this road west all the way, for about 2 miles, to the obvious trailhead and park. There is an outhouse at the trailhead but not much else.

Pick your route—there are no maps handy and lots of options. Explore. You can ride all the way north to the Peart Road Trailhead just south of I-8 as well. To access the Peart Road trailhead, get off at the Jimmie Kerr exit and head west for about 2 miles to Peart Road. Turn south, go under I-8, and then follow the obvious dirt road to the established parking lot area.

The Ridge Trail is the most difficult trail here. It includes elevation gain, some drops, large rocks, and narrow path.
