Overview

Central Wyoming College's Outdoor Education program is based at this location, Sinks Canyon Center (SCC). Students are building a variety of singletrack trails here. The SCC loop connects the clifftop doubletrack to new flow trail and the canal trail. This short loop is open to the public and the closest singletrack to the town of Lander.

Need to Know

Park on the left before crossing the bridge and pedal up the road about 50 yards to parking lot. The trail begins behind the big red barn. Signage is not great. The College should have more and better signs up this summer.

Description

From the trail sign behind Fremont Hall, ride across wooden bridge and head left on grassy singletrack uphill to the gate. Pass through the gate and continue up the hill on the jeep road, then hit the bridge on right. Cross the bridge and follow singletrack through another gate and back onto college property. Follow jeep road on scenic sandstone cliff for .75 mile.

As the road veers left, away from the cliff band, the singletrack peels off to the right and continues following the cliff for another 0.25 mile to intersection above a big berm and gap in the cliff band on the right.

For a rowdier option, continue up the 2 track for 200 yards past the first singletrack to find a second singletrack on the right which leads to 3 descent options. Each option gets progressively difficult. The easiest route is on the left, and it has no mandatory drops. The middle route includes a 1-foot drop. The left route includes a 3-foot drop. All 3 options meet up with main trail above the berm. Motor through the berm and across the meadow to a barbed wire fence and the top of the flow trail.

Drop into the gully on singletrack to small rollers and bermed turns built into the sides of the gully for .25 miles. Cross another bridge then turn right and follow the grassy path and singletrack along a scenic canal below cliff band. Stay right and this canal trail will bring you back to the first gate.

This trail is all rideable but still being buffed in and improved. More flow-style singletrack and built features coming in 2016.

The trail is open to public and owned by Central Wyoming College. It is part of their outdoor education facility, Sinks Canyon Center.
