The fee to get into the park is $14 per vehicle.

This is an alternating day loop. Even days loop clockwise. Odd, counter-clockwise.
Helmets are mandatory.

There are two low water crossings on the Lake Trail, one over Wye Creek and one just South of the Thorndale bridge on the west side of the Thames River. When the reservoir and river are high, these sections of the trail may be impassable, in which case you'll be asked to double back. See current flows and water levels for Wye Creek.

Overview

One of the best long loops in southern Ontario on a very well maintained trail system. Great views of Fanshawe Lake and a nice visitor center.

Need to Know

Pay attention to which way you are supposed to ride the loop. Some people get pretty upset about it.

There are many features throughout the trail, clearly marked such as Monkey Wrench.

Description

This is a great 20km / 13.1mi loop featuring rocks, roots, nice inclines, but nothing that will overly stress you. About 80% "let it rip" and 20% technical tight spots with steep inclines and rocks, roots, and hairpins. A great workout.

If you're looking for and additional challenge, there are several advanced areas, such as Monkey Wrench with many obstacles such as log rides, roll-overs, teeter toters and places to get some air. The trail has decent markings, but can be a bit confusing the first time as you go off the singletrack onto a pretty busy couple of roads and a few cottage roads. Follow the blue "hiker" signs and hug the lake shoreline where ever you can. Better signage would be much appreciated, especially for newbies!

Coasting through the trees in Fanshawe Lake Park!

Striking path through the pines. Photo doesn't do justice.

Somewhere on the east side heading south. There is a lot of this really mellow stuff, but I didn't stop to take photos in the tougher technical sections, which is there too.

Should I "crop" this photo?

Conditions quite good - only a few spots of deep mud - easily negotiated. 1st time counter clockwise. Easy to miss entry back to trail at very N end. 14mi

Beautiful ride. Fun trail. Clockwise today. 82F, so definitely broke a sweat, but not bad. Will go back! 13.1mi — 1h 45m
