Yield to equestrians. Do not ride the trails when muddy conditions are present. Hunting is permitted at Rockwoods Range so be sure to read up on the local hunting schedule before heading out. This trail is extremely slow to dry out. Avoid at all costs after rain. Takes several days - sometimes a week - to dry out.

Description

Fox Run Trail is a rugged out-and-back old-school trail that features wide singletrack. It follows the tops of ridgelines and gets from point A to B as quickly as possible... This involves riding straight down steep, sketchy hillsides and then heading straight up near-impossible climbs. Your head might explode.

Start this ride at the Roundhouse parking lot located off Allenton Road. This will allow you to tack on the trails within Greensfelder County Park and your vehicle will be in the center of all the action in case you need to resupply or bail out. Begin by riding down the gravel doubletrack into Rockwoods Range proper and climb the small grade heading past the hiking-only Green Rock trail located on your right. About 100 feet or so take a right onto the Roundhouse Loop trail. Bear right at the next intersection to begin your Fox Run trail out-and-back journey.

Fox Run has good and bad days. The bad days involve rutted post-holed tread that saps your strength while the overgrown foliage is dripping with seed ticks. The good days are rare but you are rewarded with semi-smooth tread and dry, fast conditions.

For all the nasty descents and climbs you'll find that Fox Run travels pretty fast along the ridgelines between the valleys of doom. This trail is primarily used by equestrians so you'll encounter hoofed tread where folks have ridden in muddy conditions. The process of erosion has taken its toll on many of the climbs and descents so take it easy until you get to know the lay of the land.

The final trail descent ends at the northern Rockwoods Range gravel trailhead parking lot located off Fox Creek Road. Here you can regain your composure before tackling the enormous hill you just descended. Now you get to ride it all in reverse.

Combine the Roundhouse Loop and any of the trails at Greensfelder County Park that's located next door and you can string together a substantial multi-trail ride.

Be sure to yield to equestrians and promote proper trail etiquette.
