The loop around the Hoya soccer complex and the Coy Simms softball fields is a paved section. The trail continues underneath Main St. as you go north and becomes a dirt path with some roots, but is mostly level. There are a couple of technical sections that erode easily and one short set of irregular steps.

Upon entering Pecan Park, the trail becomes a more consistent chipped stone surface. There is an optional spur that crosses a new bridge and heads towards the playground and parking area at Pecan Park. Follow the chipped stone surface along the levee to continue north.

After passing under Starr, there is the first of several narrow steel bridges with high railings. These can catch handlebars if you're not careful so walk your bike if your handling is shaky. After this section the trail becomes paved with asphalt. You'll pass some sports fields on your left. After this area, a spur leaves to the left to head to the Intramural parking area and a restroom. This area also connects to a network of garden paths in the SFA Mast Arboretum.

To the east you'll see a bridge crossing Lanana Creek, which takes you to the Mize Azalea Garden (beautiful in spring and fall) network of paths, and across University Dr., the SFA Recreational Trails and network of MTB trails.

Continuing north along the Lanana Creek Trail, you'll pass underneath East College and get dumped into the commuter parking lot. Continue north. Pass the foot bridge across the creek and you'll see a driveway that heads towards the back of the football stadium. Immediately after entering this driveway, a narrow dirt path continues north along some track & field competition areas and enters the woods.

You have now entered the Pineywoods Native Plant Center network of paved paths. There is a lot here to explore, but if you continue north along the Lanana Creek Trail, you'll eventually reach the sidewalk at E. Austin St. Currently, the Lanana Creek Trail effectively ends here, but construction has begun on a northern extension. When finished, simply turn right on E. Austin and cross the bridge. Once across the bridge, the path will continue to the right, loop around and underneath the other side of the creek under E. Austin and continue north towards the North Loop.
