Overview

This trail explores all of the 'outermost' sections of the trail network on Camp Robinson.

Description

Start on Zig Zag at the parking lot. TURN LEFT onto Shipwreck. TURN LEFT onto Merlin. Immediately CROSS the Pipeline following Merlin's Revenge to Can O' Corn. CROSS Dogwood to Dead Elvis. TURN LEFT onto Ball O' Nails. TURN LEFT on Buddha. STAY LEFT onto Airport Loop. TURN RIGHT onto Center Road. TURN LEFT onto 10Bridges. TURN RIGHT to Parking Lot.

Start at the Parking Lot and enter the woods next to the kiosk. Zig Zag is marked by a wooden sign just on the other side of the bridge. Once you are on Zig Zag, the trail gets tight and twisty. It skirts the west side of the parking lot and makes its way towards West Boundary Road before making a right turn and paralleling West Boundary Road. At the edge of Purdham Hill, Zig Zag turns away from West Boundary Road and criss-crosses the pipeline until it intersects with Shipwreck near 5Mile.

Stay left and descend Shipwreck to Merlin. Then, at the intersection of Merlin and Shipwreck, cross the pipeline to Merlin's Revenge and then on to Can O' Corn. This section of trail can be a bit muddy during the winter months.

Once you clear Merlin's Revenge and enter Can O' Corn near West Boundary Road, the trail flows a bit like a roller coaster and this short section is one of the most fun on Camp Robinson. The trail then settles in and provides a fast bed of singletrack as you work your way east toward Dogwood. The trail crosses a few small creeks which have a rocky bed and while they may have water, they are not muddy or soft. Then the trail turns west and enters a low area with thick brush that provides a nice corridor while you hammer.

Bridges have been added to this section to save you from riding through big seasonal waterholes. After the bridges, the trail enters the woods again as you pass an old homestead. There are a few spots that can be muddy during winter months just before you arrive at Dogwood.

Cross Dogwood to Dead Elvis and enjoy the flow until you get to Ball O' Nails. Ball of Nails is like riding a two-mile long rock garden and the trick is to transition to your technical legs after riding Dead Elvis. As you pass the intersection with Advanced Trig to your right, the trail is a slight uphill with melon sized rocks. Apply power to the pedals to keep your bike upright and do not let up until the trail levels out and turns left. Wait. Did you notice the big ball of nails hanging in the tree just off the right-hand side of the trail as you hammered through the rocks? Well, next time.

The trail makes a few twists before you have a very short uphill with clay and exposed roots. This is where everyone comes off the bike so pick a good line and apply power again. Do not let up though because in about sixty feet you have to turn left and make a technical maneuver between trees while negotiating melon sized rocks again followed by a short rock garden. Over the next half mile, the trail smooths out and climbs the side of the hill with a series of switchbacks before skirting along the edge towards Love Trail. Make a hard left at the intersection, cross the long sway backed bridge and ride to where the trail connects with Buddha.

Stay left on Buddha and find your Zen as you have to stay in the moment with the trail to realize its flow. The trail turns back on itself a few times so you are sure to be turned around and unsure of the direction you are going until you begin to skirt the road for the last half mile before the trail intersects with Airport Loop.
Stay left on Airport Loop and continue to enjoy the flow of this original Camp Robinson trail that takes you to Center Road.

At Center Road, make a right-hand turn and it's a short jaunt on this doubletrack to 10Bridges on the left just past the creek. Ride 10Bridges all the way to the end and then exit right to the parking lot.
