Jack's Cruel Joke begins at the south end of Hermit Placer Trail and ends on Sunbeam Drive near the Stephen C. West Ice Arena. The lower end of the trail is particularly rocky.

Jack's Cruel Joke traverses a steep hillside, and has a bit of outslope near the top of the trail. After turning through a tight switchback from Hermit Placer, the trail descends through three more switchbacks and a technical rocky section before coming to an end on Sunbeam Drive.

Take a left on Sunbeam Drive towards the ice arena, or cross the road and ride Sunbeam Trail to Carter Park.

The trail is a technical challenging climb, but is the quickest route to Moonstone and Barney Ford trails from the Stephen C. West Ice Arena.

Jack's is south-facing, permitting earlier access with a lot of aspens for late season leaf peeping.
