Overview

National Trail continues all the way across South Mountain, but if someone tells you they did National Trail this is probably what they mean. It's a technical and rocky descent from Buena Vista lookout all the way to the main parking lot at the east side. Most people get to the start of this ride by going up the neighboring Mormon Loop trail, which rejoins National for the upper 2 miles or so. People do climb National, but the vast majority do it as a descent only.

Description

From Buena Vista Lookout, head east on National trail. Keep heading east past the signs for Hidden Valley and Mormon trails. It's more or less a straight shot down to the parking lot.

You'll find lots and lots of rock gardens and drops in the 2 foot range, with plenty of bigger stuff, most of which can be hiked down or ridden around. Bring as much suspension travel as you own, and remember that you'll have to make up for anything less than 6" with that much more guts and skillz!
