“Stays within the Buffalo Creek Fire area for 80% of the ride and is mostly flat, gravelly and flows”

Overview4:30 average ride time for 20.0 miles. Details
This is a well defined trail winding its way through the Buffalo Creek Fire (1996). The singletrack is fast and flows nicely along the gravelly trail with great views of the fire's devastation and the recent new growth.
DescriptionThere is a large parking lot on Platte River Rd. which marks the end of segment 1 of the Colorado Trail and the beginning of segment 2. Cross the large iron bridge over the Platte River and begin by heading south along the river for a brief stent before heading west over a short section of shale. From here follow a well defined trail winding its way through the Buffalo Creek Fire (1996).
The segment officially ends at the Little Scraggy Trail (marked on Map) We chose to end the segment at the Deckers Rd. and ride back to Platte River Trailhead for a great out and back ride. Thus when we rode segment 3 of the Colorado Trail, we started from the roadside parking lot (marked on map) then rode the short distance to the Little Scraggy Trailhead.
History & BackgroundBuffalo Creek Fire (1996) burned for 1 week, scorching 10,000 acres of forest covering a distance of over 10 miles with a 2 mile width. The fire also destroyed 18 homes.
