Need to Know
Access is from the Bayou Gulch Open Space parking lot situated on the south side of East Bayou Gulch Road, or from the Cherry Creek trail connector.
Note that there is moderate equestrian traffic on this trail, particularly during weekends. Motorized vehicles are expressly prohibited per the signage and Douglas County website.
Description
The route as described here connects two singletrack loops that may be run in either direction. This trail connects from the
Bayou Gulch Perimeter Trail which itself is accessible from the
Cherry Creek Trail system.
The terrain consists of rolling pasture located on the side of a hill, with many dips, rises, and tight turns which keep it interesting in the absence of rocks and trees. While the trail lacks any notable obstacles, there are several modest climbs providing some aerobic workout.
Short muddy spots can be encountered after wet weather and during the winter months. The second, larger loop rewards with outstanding views of Pikes Peak and the Front Range from the high point of the trail.
As of the time of writing in January 2021, bicycle traffic is still extremely low and as a consequence there doesn't appear to be any apparent trail conflict with other users, including equestrians and hikers.
