See the Steamboat Ditch Trail: Hole-In-The-Wall Section for a description of the tortured situation surrounding access to that 44-mile long "trail."

Basically, you'll often get bounced off the ditch by closures across sections of private property. The Caughlin Ranch Trail System has sections like this that can be used to get back onto the Ditch Trail afterwards.
