Overview

The track is moderate to seldom used ATV doubletrack, but I've never cared much about that. It's all singletrack on a bike. It feels remote and isolated during the ride. Lots of riding in trees. Beautiful and quiet. I've never run into another human on the loop.

You'll have to cross the creek a few times, but you shouldn't have to put your feet down. Don't ride this after a rain storm; the trail is mainly dirt that will be slick and muddy making the steep climbs and descents frustrating.

Description

This ride takes place on the Caribou National Forest. You get to it easily by taking the Auburn-Forest road to its end. You open the first swinging gate just before the parking area. You then hop on the forest road for about three quarters of a mile before cutting off down the Jensen Creek ATV trail.

You can start the loop by going left after a short descent or staying right. It's a toss up which direction on the loop is better. I've ridden it both ways and it's the same distance up and down either way. If you ride it the direction shown here—clockwise—make sure to take the first trail to the right that departs from the main ATV track after about three quarters of a mile from the point where you chose the clockwise loop left.

At the end of the loop's first leg, either way the turning point, you ride around a small, mossy pond to start back. There are some steep climbs and long sustained climbs—hence the long winding and sometimes flowing descent—so you need to be in good biking shape to navigate the loop.

A bit more climbing than I was prepared for, but I'm also 22wks pregnant. Overall, a pretty ride. 6.7mi — 1h 53m
