Overview

The Buenavista route in Villavicencio is ideal for its climbing and technical descents.

The route took us to the west of the city on an ascent to the sector of Buenavista, reaching incredible viewpoints and the "Door of the Sky". This is followed by a steep descent among rocks and waterfalls. Finish by returning to the parking area on Avenida Calle 15 to shuttle home or bike north through the streets back to the starting point.

This route can only be done in one direction (counter-clockwise) as the technical descent sector is too difficult to climb.

Need to Know

A technical descent on rocks. Be very careful.

Description

The route starts at La Grama roundabout where you can find some parking places or where you can easily bike to from nearby spots throughout the city.

On leaving the roundabout of La Grama, which takes its name from the neighborhood in which it is located, we started on the paved municipal roads with a powerful ascent of 6 mi/ 9.8 km without breaks and an average incline of 13%.

This sinuous route takes riders to the sector of Buenavista before continuing left to climb a little more on Buenavista Dirt Road to reach a section of grand viewpoints. There, you must visit on foot the "Door of the Sky", with its delightful panorama of the llanero landscape and of Villavicencio. Here, you might see paragliders taking off.

Continuing on the route, start a gentle descent through uncovered roads to turn abruptly to the left and start a very technical descent between loose rocks that forced us to get off the bike in several places.

This stretch brings riders closer to waterfalls and beautiful vegetation and eventually passes a rural school and continues descending uncovered roads through the sector of the path El Carmen to finally reach the city again.

History & Background

The summit is used for paragliding jumps.
