This trail is a grinding climb all the way up to the Skyline Trail and a rioting fast descent on the return.

Description

The Ben Lomond Trail can be ridden both directions as an out-and-back ride or as a shuttle down from the Skyline Trail to the Ogden Divide Parking Lot. Personally, I prefer doing a point-to-point run starting from the North Ogden Divide Trailhead, climbing Skyline Trail, then descending the Ben Lomond Trail to North Fork Park.

If climbing the trail as mapped, start at the North Fork Park's southwestern most parking lot, ride left going northwest past the corral. Continue on singletrack through the trees, then after a few hundred yards, merge onto a doubletrack trail.

Continue on the dirt road until you see singletrack on the right side. Hop on the singletrack to keep climbing through more trees with major roots, rocks, and several switchbacks. The top of the trail ends at a "T" intersection. Left follows the Skyline Trail south for a fun and fast descent with some exposed edges and very deep ruts. Heading right would continue up the Skyline Trail along a series of very steep and lung-busting switchbacks to the Ben Lomond Peak.

In the reverse, the Ben Lomond Trail won't disappoint you either. The descent is mostly a fast and open singletrack, but there are several switchbacks to add to the fun and technical difficulty. During the summer months, it can get really dusty and loose. And when you hit the trees, expect some roots. Fortunately, they won't slow you down or take the fun out of the flow.

Rideing down the doubletrack section is even faster, but keep watch of the sharp-edged rocks, if not, you'll find yourself sitting on the side fixing a snakebite flat or a bent rim. The rest of the singletrack back to the parking lot is a nice, smooth, and shady ride through the trees.

Sloppy and not recommended for sake of the trail.
