Although this trail is also formally known as the "Big Laguna Trail", in reality it's an almost two-mile spur that travels along the west side of the Laguna Meadow before reconnecting with the main Big Laguna Trail. This is a great trail to incorporate into several loops that can be done around the Laguna Meadow.

Riding north to south, this trail peels off the "main" Big Laguna Trail after the climb up from the Penny Pines parking area off the Sunrise Highway. The Sunset Trail splits off to the right and becomes a hiking-only trail, and this spur turns to the left and follows the edge of the trees downhill on the western side of the meadow.

The ride is nearly all smooth, buttery singletrack, with some fun curves around large fallen trees and around fences. It's about the easiest trail in the entire BLT system, providing a change of pace from the rockier, root-laden main BLT that travels on the east side of the meadow.

On the southern end of this spur, taking a right at the intersection heads to a smaller lake called "Water of the Woods" on the Water of the Woods Spur. Keeping left will continue along this trail to cross the low earthen dam that forms Big Laguna Lake. Once across the dam, you can choose several directions to ride - either left up the BLT to return to the Penny Pines parking area or right to explore the other spur trails in the Laguna area.

Watch out for hikers and other bikers going fast in the opposite direction, since the singletrack can be narrow, although you've got pretty good visibility along most of this trail.
