Description

This is a well-known trail (sometimes referred to as "Juan Trail") that starts at the bottom of Nun's Corner on Hwy 475. There is no parking lot so you'll have to park on the side of the road. The trailhead is clearly marked.

The beginning of the trail is actually the Little Tesuque Creek Trail for the first 500 meters or so. It then splinters off to the right and begins to climb. The climb is steep and technical is spots. There are no switchbacks so you'll have a grunt of a climb to the top of a ridge.

From here, you can take a lesser-known trail to the west along the Santa Fe National Forest fence line to the Carol Trail, or you can continue on the Burn Trail #399 to the east (also along the fence). Soon you'll get to an opening in the fence to the north, where the Saddleback Trail #232 heads east, and you can finish the trail with an epic descent to the Winsor Trail.

This trail (especially the downhill going north) is one of the best in town. The views are amazing, and the trail is fast, technical, and fun. This is a downhill you'll wish never ended. Once you hit the Winsor Trail, you can climb up it to the Chamisa Trail #183 and make a loop on Saddleback Trail #232 or you can descend just a small ways and make a smaller loop on the Carol Trail and head back up the ridge you just descended. The Discount Trail is also nearby should you be up for a bigger ride.
