This forest road begins on the western outskirts of Mittenwald. From Mittenwald, a short but steep climb to the Lautersee (lake) begins.

Once you pass the Lautersee, another short climb ensues before you reach the Ferchensee (lake). This is a popular hiking area and there is a restaurant at the Lautersee. In the summer months, you can bathe in either lake.

From the Ferchensee, it's downhill again through a dense forest until the small hamlet of Elmau. In Elmau, you'll see the Schlosshotel Elmau (Castle-Hotel Elmau), where you can stay if you have a lot of money or happen to attend summits with national leaders.
