Access the trail by way of the BLM entrance near Starr Ave and Rainbow. If the gate is closed, just park on the side of the road and hop the fence. Head south by southeast from wherever you park, and you should see the singletrack.

For a mile or so, the singletrack will head south along the bluffs. You'll come to a well-marked branch, R takes you on Aiden Quarries, L goes toward the railroad tracks. The trail follows a meandering course through relatively flat terrain with periodic desert wash crossings. There are a couple of service road crossings along the flats of this trail, the singletrack does continue opposite each road crossing so look for the trail markers. The service roads are not great riding.

The ascent has several larger obstacles that require occasional dismounting for any but a highly skilled rider. Don't be intimidated though as the climb is not too long and has rewarding 360-degree views. Once at the top, take in the views and prepare for the short but exciting descent; good flow, few obstacles, and the trail is easy to follow.

The Aiden Quarries trail continues in singletrack fashion all the way to Fort Apache but you can cut off down any of the numerous service road crossings to get back to starting point at Starr/Rainbow.
