Adventure Pass needed to park at Blue Jay Campground.

Description

To contrast the eroded Old San Juan Trail, this trail is a refreshing change with beautiful sections through oak forest and chaparral. The tread is intact and keeps a manageable grade throughout.

The best way to access this trail is from Blue Jay Campground and heading southwest. Use the MTB Project mobile app to navigate the intersections as the signage can be confusing or non-existent. The trail ends at the Cocktail Rock intersection with the Old San Juan Trail.

This is a long and physically challenging route through the Cleveland National Forest area that's commonly referred to as the San Juan Lollipop Loop. In total I logged 23 miles with 4300 feet of climbing.

Better downhill, very difficult sections uphill with rocks and roots. Had to dismount several times on the uphill 7mi

Make sure you have some pretty sturdy rims and spokes to deal with all the rocks and tree roots. Extra water is always advisable. 8.5mi — 4h 08m
