Park closures take place after heavy rains, and heavy flooding on Barton Creek. Please respect the trail and decline from trail use during wet conditions.

Description

The Violet Crown Trail refers to a portion of the Barton Creek Greenbelt main trail that starts at the BCGB trailhead near Barton Springs to the Violet Crown Trailhead at Brodie and 290 near Spec's.

The Hill Country Conservancy, an Austin non-profit, organized and built a 1-mile portion of trail that connects the Barton Creek Greenbelt to the Brodie/290 intersection, allowing for the connecting of a major trail network to South Austin and Hays County in the future. Additionally, the Hill Country Conservancy raised funds to install much needed steel Violet Crown and Barton Creek Greenbelt trail markers that aid in route finding.

The Violet Crown Trail portion of the Barton Creek Greenbelt is maintained by the Austin Ridge Riders Mountain Bike club, a local Austin non-profit. This trail is fairly technical, with quite a few rock gardens, rock ledges, and roots. Navigating Barton Creek when it is high and flowing can be done by following this route. With this route, the only creek crossing is the main creek crossing about 2.5 miles in from the start at the Violet Crown Trailhead at Brodie Lane. Be aware of heavy foot traffic during peak times on weekends and afternoons on weekdays.

Watch out if you're coming pretty fast around the corner! There's no bridge here. You have to carry your bike and climb up and down this dry creek bed.
