Description

This is one of the few bike-legal portions of the John Muir Trail at BSF. From Divide Road, follow the trail down a fun, swoopy descent. This first mile or two feature some of the coolest rock formations along the whole trail. Below the rocks, the landscape is lush and jungle-like. Above the rock formations, your surroundings will revert to a more traditional hardwood forest.

The next 3-4 miles of trail contour into and out of drainage after drainage. There are no major elevation changes along this portion of trail. Eventually, you'll pass a junction with the Chestnut Ridge Trail and begin a great descent. After the descent, you'll find yourself on a narrow protruding land formation with a quick hike a bike. After the hike-a-bike, continue to an amazing overlook on the edge of a cliff band.
