Ben's Dead Dog Loop is slightly east of the Wood Hill complex. The terrain is complex with lots of tight turns and sharp technical sections. Ben's Switchback's is a steep switchbacked section of trail that can wash out if there is a lot of rain. The trail surface is a mixture of sand, dirt, rocks, and stumps. There are some fun steep sections that are very technical.

Start by riding up Ben's Switchbacks. Generally people ride the Dead Dog loop in a clockwise direction, which means that once you reach the top of the mesa turn left (north) on a doubletrack road for a hundred yards or so. Look for a small carsonite sign with an arrow directing you back to the singletrack.

This first section of the trail does not see much use and at times the trail is on rock and can be hard to find. Keep an eye out for the singletrack sections and look for cool overlooks where great views of the Book Cliffs can be had.

Watch for a sharp drop-off just before you reach the doubletrack. It has a wooden ramp in place, but the drop can sneak up on you if you're not paying attention.

At the current southern terminus of this trail, you'll be back on another doubletrack road for another hundred yards or so. Head back to the north to get back to Ben's Switchback's or look for a new trail being constructed on the spine to the south.

Be careful riding downhill on Ben's as there is a decent amount of exposure and some really tight turns.
