Overview

There is tons of vertical in this 14-mile ride, plus you get the pleasure of riding one of best trail sections in the area (Watchman Trail). This ride has one of the more challenging climbs in town on Orchard Gulch Trail #7, so go challenge yourself!

The only real drawback to this route is a slightly loose rock section coming down Three Bears, although it is not a big deal for most riders.

Description

Park on Rocky Canyon road at the entrance/exit to Shane's Trail and climb the road to Orchard Gulch Trail #7 - get your burn on up to the Five Mile Gulch junction. Once you cross Orchard Creek this trails climbs up and out of the canyon, ultimately tying into Five Mile Gulch. The technical difficulty of this trail is low and there is little in the way to dodge or travel over, although there are some steep pitches.

Take the left fork to Watchman Trail and burn some more up to the Three Bears trail junction. Watchman Trail is steep near the beginning and end and then the remaining parts of the trail traverse open slopes and drainages. There is a slightly loose rock section coming down Three Bears.

After this, bomb down somewhat loose, rocky terrain to the top of Shane's Trail and take a right and bomb down some more flow to the next junction. From there you'll want to turn left to stay on Shane's Trail. Turn left again at the next junction to stay on Shane's Trail, up another burner.

Take a right at the next junction to eject you back out to Rocky Canyon Road and your awaiting vehicle. There's a ton of vertical in these 14 linear miles, making for a great ride!
