Description

The Mountain View Trail is singletrack curving along the eastern shore of the island. This is a flatter area, with views of the Wasatch Front and you get to encounter a few wildlife like buffalo, whitetail deer, wildcat, fox, etc.

To find the trailhead, fork left as you reach the island (near the marina). A very short way down the road, at the next fork, you'll find the trail on the left side of the road. You can park at the side of the road at the trailhead or park at the marina parking lot & ride on the road to the trailhead.

In mid to late spring, you'll find plenty of biting bugs on Antelope Island, especially where the trail runs near the shoreline. Douse yourself liberally with bug repellent -- or be prepared to ride very fast without stopping.

As you head south on the trail, you'll follow the shoreline of the lake and enjoy the view of the Wasatch mountains across the Great Salt Lake. For about every 1 mile of this trail, you'll be pedaling up and down rolling hills. At mile 5, the trail crosses the Antelope Island road and then starts climbing for over a mile to the highest point of this trail, where the second parking trailhead awaits. Heading further south, you drop down again to rolling hills until crossing the road at mile 10 and the final drop to the south parking trailhead.

One of the many buffalo on the East Side Trail of Antelope Island. I really didn't like getting this close!

A warm mid-day ride with gentle breeze. Ran into a couple herd of Buffalo - had to hike up to the road to avoid confrontation.
