  • Overview

Hopewell Park Trails is a multi-use recreation area located in Danville PA. Parking is directly across the road from Sheetz. There are 3 main loops for this trail which was officially opened to the public on Sept 6 2014 as part of the River Towns Cycling Classic. Built by roughly 10 volunteers, these were built in less than 1 month for the Hopewell Mountain Bike Challenge. These trails are super flowly, moderately hilly, some downhill, banked turns, and start out on an old railroad bed. The trails are open for day and night time riding. Please be advised that hunting is allowed on these grounds so they are closed on Saturdays from the last Saturday in April through the last Saturday in May and again on Saturday's from the last Saturday in September through the second Saturday in December. Alternative trials can be found here.

    Need to Know

Even though it's signed really well, the trail names have changed and several trails have been added. If it's your first time there, it might be worthwhile to snap a quick photo of the map at the trailhead instead of relying on the app.

    Description

Inspired by Raystown Lake, PA and Kingdom Trails, VT

The Down & Dirty Loop starts off on an old railroad bed and heads west towards "Down". Don't go too quick or you'll miss the quick uphill that takes you on the outskirts of a corn field and a low turn. You'll eventually end up back on the railroad bed before you descend down 2 short steep drops in the "Dirty" part of the Down & Dirty Loop. Take the rest of the trail and head back to the railroad bed.

Up & Out Loop takes you up through the woods, over a banked wooden bridge and gives you some narely drops. Its about a 1.5 mile loop but you wont be disappointed. Theres an old grave stone dating back to the 1800s. We have part of the trail called the Oven because there is no shade at all. On a nice warm day youll feel the burn. Get to the top of that and you can hang a left to head back down 2 amazing banked corners, 2 little jumps and the finish line. Head right and youll be riding The Kitchen Sink Loop.

The Kitchen Sink Loop is our big boy trail for the ride. Over 3 miles of up and downhill, super flowy backsides an old junk yard, house foundation, Nikks Big Banana. When people ride this, they will get to the bottom and say "Man, I cant wait to do this entire trail again!" This section begins off of the Up & Out Loop, hanging a right and heading up the side of the mountain. It looks horrible, but once you get to the top youll be flowing all the way to the 3D climb. Climb that and youll be on your way to some really flowy, well thought out trails. Enjoy the wildlife while youre up there.

Turn on the flow trail and youll end up at the Old Access Road. Climb the top of the Old Access Road, and make sure you ride the old House Foundation. You'll hit some really fast and flowy spots until you get to the old junkyard part. Watch your tires; youre in an old junk yard. You have 1 or 2 more climbs before you hit the descent, and theyre lung busters. Hit those 2 and youll be coasting all the way to the bottom. Dont be afraid of Nikks Big Banana, everybody loves riding it. Get to the bottom where youre meeting up with the Up & Out Loop, and ride that back to the parking area.
