Overview

The tour begins at the harbor of Rab Town; you initially follow small roads and later an old, gently rising path up to the "Fruga" plateau. Once there, enjoy the flowing section of the trail and the descent—offering magnificent views—all the way down to Paradise Beach. Circle the northern headlands of Rab Island along a forest track and take a detour to the sea. A short singletrack leads to the harbor of Lopar.

Ride alongside the road and later on doubletracks back to the "Fruga" plateau, where you can ride part of the route again in reverse. Explore a small concrete path along the shore of "Uvala Domici" bay. Ride over the Veli Vrh hill up to the houses at "Fafandeli"; a secluded descent featuring a few steep steps awaits you there.

Down in the Kampor valley, you can visit the memorial site of the Kampor concentration camp (run by Italian Fascists from 1939 to 1943). The return route to Rab follows a doubletrack and later runs along the well-developed northern shore of "Uvala Sveta Fumija" bay. You climb up into Rab Town via a set of stairs and ride through the old alleyways back down to the harbor.

Description

Follow the road toward Kampor; soon, the small paved road becomes really steep, up to the chapel "Crkva sv. Ilija" (view). Leave the ridge and turn left onto road D105 towards Supetarska Draga.

In 100 meters, turn right onto Begovi Road. Follow it until it turns sharply down to the left (approx. 2.7 km).
Here, Fruga, Premužiceva-Staza-Trail branches off to the right, leading into the valley. Enjoy the full length of this trail, especially the descent to Lopar, Paradiso Beach, with its magnificent views of the bay.

Leave Lopar via the road climbing towards Mikulaci and continue following the paved road uphill into the forest until it makes a sharp turn to the west.

Continue at Lopar; the Northern Forest Road begins straight ahead past a barrier. There are several ways to reach the northern bays; I chose Podšilo-Bay: Podšilo-Trail (Access to the sea; a bit more difficult uphill) for downhill with a steeper section at the beginning and an erosion gully near the end. On the northern side of the sandy beach - not easy to find the start- take the Silo-Trail uphill, also with some rocky steps. Back on Lopar Northern-Forest-Road, follow it to its western end (an unpaved parking area).

Down at the bay, the Javorno-Coast-Trail begins behind three small homes. Enjoy this short trail overlooking the sea, then follow the roads downhill to the harbor of Lopar (main road D105).

Follow the main road D105 towards Supetarska Draga; take the shortcut Veli potok (shortcut to D105) on the right, which is signposted as a cycle route. Follow the cycle path beside D105 uphill for about 3 km until you reach a viewpoint on the right side. 300 meters further down, a small concrete-paved track branches off to the left.

This is the start of Fruga Southern Doubletrack. The path climbs steeply for a short stretch; you'll soon need to turn left, and you'll shortly reach the western end of the Fruga Plateau. Turn right and follow the doubletrack for about 2.2km. After a stretch of clayey ground and a short ascent through the woods, you'll reach a meadow on the right. Here, the Fruga Central Connector branches off to the left. This very flat doubletrack quickly takes you to the northern side of the plateau (clayey ground - not recommended when wet!).

You are now back on Fruga, Premužiceva-Staza-Trail. Enjoy riding in the opposite direction back to Begovi Road.
Follow Begovi Road to its western end and turn right onto the D105 towards Supetarska Draga. After approximately 800 meters, the D105 curves to the right; at this point, turn left off the main road and continue straight ahead along the small road through the houses of Supetarska Draga towards Dumici.

Where the road ends, the footpath Dumici Seaside Connector (paved narrow coastal path in Uvala Dumici) leads off to the left between the houses, crossing the hill to the next bay and continuing along the seafront (Uvala Dumici) until it joins a road near some houses.

Follow this road uphill and continue on Veli Vrch (Fafandeli); finally, a road to the "Fafandeli" on a hilltop, then descends briefly to three houses on the right-hand side.

Before the third house, a narrow passageway leads you to Guščici-Trail (Fafandeli). Enjoy the downhill until you reach road#5139. After 200 meters towards Kampor, turn right onto Kampor Forest Road. The Kampor Concentration Camp Memorial will be on your right. Continue following Kampor Forest Road, and you'll quickly reach the bay.

Turn left and ride along Uvala sveta Fumija, nothern Coastline until its end below the old town of Rab. Take the ramp, with a few steps at the top, to enter the town. Enjoy the view and then cycle back to the harbor through the narrow old streets on the other side.

History & Background

The route is based on a recommendation of "Bikeboat.Geotours.cz" and was modified by me to include more singletrack and downhill sections.
