A loop introduction to the Senator Wash trail system.
Easy and nice parking at the start and end of this loop. You get to the start and end of this loop travel about 1/4 mile on the Ferguson Lake Road past the Chistian Service Center. Take a left off the Ferguson Lake Road on the Power line Road and you'll see plenty of parking.
If you do not know the trail system, you'll need to follow MTB carefully to stay on the route. There are
several trails from people and burros. In this trail system bike trails will have bike tracks. The bikers also create rows of rocks to mark bike trails.
At the start of the loop, you'll need to travel 1/4 mile west on the power line ATV trail until it intersects with the
Orocopia trail. Take a right on the
Orocopia trail traveling about 1.8 miles to its westerly most point and its intersection with Hi Chopper trail.
Take a left on
Hi Choppers and travel it about 1 mile to an intersection to a Hi Chopper/
Orocopia connector trail which works it through interesting rock formations. Even a trail that goes down the middle of a rock pile. Why not go around the rocks? We love to move rocks in this trail system?
Back at Oracopia you'll drop down into a large wash and take a right onto the
Burro Byway trail. You'll take this trail out 2.0 miles north west to its intersection with
Turquoise Mine Trail and the
Scary Trail.
This loop has you taking a left here and taking the
Scary Trail. This section is narrow and technical. It requires you to time your pedaling. It is about 1 foot in width for long distances. You can skip this section of the loop by taking a right and going on to the intersection of the
Bonzai trail, where you'll finish the loop. See
Bonzai Intersection below.
For those doing the
Scary section: There is a slow 1.5-mile climb to an ATV road. You then take a switch back that continues to climb. On reaching the top and a great view, you have a fast technical downhill to the intersection of the
Pi Trail, where you take a right.
Follow the
Pi Trail to its intersection with the
Turquoise Mine Trail, where you take a right and cross a large wash, which is normally well-maintained. After climbing out of the wash, you come to the
Bonzai Trail.
Bonzai Intersection: go south from here, mostly downhill. This is a favorite trail in the system with its fast-flowing, interesting sections. At about 1.8 miles, you'll come to the
Bonzai/
Marvin Mesa Connector. At this connector trail, you'll take a left to go over to the
Marvin Mesa Trail. This connector is well marked but sandy.
Once you reach the
Marvin Mesa trail, you take a left and start a climb up to the top of
Marvin Mesa and its fun Rock Art. Continue on
Marvin Mesa Trail to its intection with the
Pi Trail. At the
Pi Trail Intersection, take a right, travel about 1/2 to the intersection with the
Medallion Trail, where you'll take a right.
On the Madallion trail, you'll travel fast and fun downhill back to the Power Line Road and your car.
