ABOUT THE PITTMAN WASH
The Pittman Wash is an integral part of the comprehensive Regional Flood Control
Master plan that provides the City of Henderson with safe passage of run-off generated by storm events. The Pittman Wash conveys flows from Pittman Watershed that extends from the McCullough Range on the southwest to where the Pittman Wash crosses Boulder Highway. The Watershed has a total drainage area of approximately 156 miles.
The Pittman Wash Landmark Corridor is a natural appearing flood control facility.
The primary goal of the open space plan, as expressed by the public, is for natural appearing flood control facilities, especially those in recreational corridors such as Pittman Wash.
Pittman Wash is a public right-of-way that, in addition to being a food control facility, includes water and sanitary sewer utilities and an open space benefitting all residents of the City of Henderson. Pittman Wash is regularly inspected and maintained by City of Henderson staff to ensure that the flood capacity is not compromised by trash, debris, sediment, and vegetation overgrowth.
The utilities within Pittman Wash are also inspected and maintained to provide uninterrupted service and comply with state and federal regulations. City of Henderson staff manages the paved trail system on top of the Pittman Wash
