Description

While the other side of Black Mountain trail is off limits to bikes because it lies in the Cranberry Wilderness area, this section across the Highlands Scenic Highway is open to bikes. It sees very little traffic and at the moment is overgrown and covered in deadfall. It does run through some interesting terrain and vegetation and has a few fun sections if clear. Part of the trail tread lies on an old rail bed used in the logging era of the late 1800s early 1900s. If you are determined to ride it park at the Big Spruce overlook parking area and the trail will end at the Williams River Valley overlook parking area. From here, ride the Highland Scenic Highway back to the start for a roughly 5 mile loop. If the trail was clear this would be a nice loop.
